Refugee Festival Scotland 2024 – RISE

Art of Birdie was commissioned to create the visual identity for Refugee Festival Scotland 2024, celebrating the creativity, resilience and contributions of refugee communities across Scotland.

Art of Birdie was commissioned to create the visual identity for Refugee Festival Scotland 2024, an annual celebration of the contributions, cultures and experiences of refugees and people seeking sanctuary across Scotland.

Led by our founder, Malini Chakrabarty, the project involved developing a distinctive visual identity that reflected the festival's themes of community, belonging, resilience and collective celebration. The work included the creation of the festival artwork, campaign visuals and design assets used across print and digital communications.

The final identity combined vibrant colour, illustration and storytelling to create a welcoming and joyful visual language while acknowledging the complexity of migration, displacement and home. Designed to work across multiple formats and audiences, the campaign helped amplify the festival's programme and celebrate the creativity, leadership and cultural contributions of refugee communities throughout Scotland.

Through illustration and design, the project demonstrates how visual storytelling can foster connection, challenge stereotypes and create space for more inclusive cultural narratives.
