Building Racial Literacy - Education Scotland
Led illustration and animation for Education Scotland's Building Racial Literacy programme, creating accessible resources that support anti-racist practice across Scottish education.
Building Racial Literacy is a national learning programme developed by Education Scotland to support educators in developing confidence, knowledge and practical tools for anti-racist practice in schools and learning environments.
As Lead Illustrator and Animator, I worked with the Building Racial Literacy team to create a suite of visual assets that made complex conversations around race, identity, bias, belonging and systemic inequality more accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. Drawing on principles of inclusive design and visual storytelling, I developed illustrations and animated content that supported learning, reflection and discussion across the programme's resources and training materials.
The challenge was to communicate sensitive and often complex topics in ways that felt approachable, thoughtful and empowering, while ensuring the visuals reflected the diversity of Scotland's communities and educational settings. Through collaborative development and an audience-centred approach, the resulting artwork helps educators engage with anti-racist learning in meaningful and practical ways.
The project demonstrates the role that illustration and animation can play in supporting social change, translating research and educational content into accessible visual experiences that encourage learning, dialogue and action.
